New Delhi
The fate of seven out of 11 BJP MLAs from J&K, who cross voted in favour of the National Conference-Congress alliance in the recent legislative council election, continues to hang in balance. All BJP MLAs from the State had earlier forwarded their resignation to BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, who took stock of the situation here on Tuesday.
Besides Gadkari, general secretary Ananth Kumar, organisational secretary Ramlal and others were present in the meeting with the MLAs and, sources claimed, party’s central leadership was “not very much convinced” with the arguments put forth by the legislators.
The two-hour long meeting between central leaders and legislators remained inconclusive and Gadkari, later, drove to veteran leader LK Advani’s residence to brief him about the development.
“The first round of meeting had taken place and the national president has heard the MLAs. Another round of meeting would soon take place,” RP Singh, co-incharge of party affairs in J&K told reporters after the meeting. Later, another meeting took place at Gadkari’s residence and an “announcement was expected soon”.
Sources claim the party might refer the case of the five-member disciplinary committee headed by OP Kohli, who is also the in-charge of party affairs in the State.
That Gadkari has taken a strong exception to development, particularly about the role of senior State leaders, speculations were rife that the erring MLAs could be suspended straightaway, after the matter is brought before the Parliamentary Board of the party anytime soon.
