    Body of BJP leader cremated

    Thiruvananthapuram:The body of BJP Kerala Vice-President and Party Candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Assembly Constituency, Advocate B K Sekhar, who died yesterday at a private hospital in Kochi, was cremated at Thycaud, here today.Sekhar's body, which was brought to his house here from Kochi yesterday, was kept at the BJP State Headquarters ''Mararji Bhavan'' for public to pay homage.

    He died at the Amrita Hospital, Kochi, where he was undergoing treatment for cancer of gall bladder.

    Mr Sekhar, who entered politics as a student, was Thiruvananthapuram District President of the BJP and State Convener of the party's media cell and its spokesman in the State.

    He had served the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the students' wing of the party in various capacities.

    He also worked as chairman of the Thiruvananthapuram Airport Development Authority, Member of the Senate of Kerala University and Director Board Member of Canara Bank.

    He is survived by wife Shyama and daughter Gouri Kalayani.

    Several political leaders, including Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala and BJP National Secretary Muralidhar Rao expressed grief over the demise of Mr B K Sekhar.

    Party State President V Muraleedharan and other leaders including P S Sreedharan Pillai, M T Ramesh and O Rajagopal attended the funeral ceremony at 1400 hrs here.
