Snake charmers protest with snakes outside CM’s residence

    New Delhi,
Pipe-playing snake charmers with their dancing snakes staged a unique protest outside Chief Minister Sheila Dixit's residence today demanding the inclusion of the community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.

The protest was unique in its style as the snake charmers started to play their "beens" (pipes) with some of them taking the reptiles out of the cane baskets and making them dance.

After some time Dixit came out and met a few of the agitators and promised to look into their demand.

"We have asked for reservation under the ST category and have demanded issuance of licence to all our community members. The Chief Minister has agreed to look into the issue," a member of Delhi Sapera Samaj said.

"The government must include us in the ST category so that we get benefits of reservation as we are from the adivasi community," a snake charmer said.

The snake charmers also said if the government did not fulfil their demand, they would step up their agitation
