Kho-kho player hit in the eye over bus seat

BANGALORE: An altercation with a co-passenger led to a partial loss of vision in the right eye for a kho-kho player.

On Sunday night, 19-year-old Mukesh V Rathod was on his way to Bangalore from Tumkur to participate in a tournament. Just as he was about to board the bus at the Tumkur bus station, there was some confusion over seats. An argument ensued between Rathod and two other passengers. One of the passengers hurled a stone that hit Rathod's right eye.

Rathod was rushed to a hospital in Tumkur. But doctors referred him to Minto Eye Hospital, Bangalore. According to the doctors, he has lost partial vision of the right eye. "Only after further treatment, can we determine the extent of the loss. While treating him, we found foreign particles in his eye. We are conducting a surgery to get them out," said Dr Shivprasad Reddy, Medical Superintendent, Minto Hospital.

Rathod is a student of first year mechanical engineering in Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur. Rathod's parents who are in Yadgir district were informed by the college authorities. His father V S Rathod, a farmer in Yadagir district, rushed to Bangalore.

"Mukesh was on his way to Bangalore with 11 other players for a tournament when the incident took place. Almost an hour to the incident, I received a call from the college," said Mukesh's father.
