In a bid to ward off possible terror threats emanating from the sea, coastal security agencies will soon undertake a drill to check their preparedness, an official said today.
''Sagar Kawach'' (sea shield), a drill involving all the agencies looking after maritime security, will be undertaken shortly on Goa''s shoreline, said a Government spokesman.
"The comprehensive coastal security exercise, being conducted since 2009, will help provide a seamless seaward cover along the Goa coast," he said.
The Goa Government has decided to involve Drishti Lifeguards, a private firm manning Goa''s beaches, in the multi -agency exercise.
"The Centre had set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) for reviewing the national security. On the recommendations of the GOM, various steps, including this drill, have been taken to enhance coastal security," the spokesman added.
