Odisha Police (OP), Phulbani and Khurda registered wins in their respective matches against Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and the host Nalco respectively and entered the quarterfinal rounds of the Nalco Cup State Hockey Championship at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Saturday.
OP trounced Mayurbhanj by 7-0 goals. Susil Kujur netted the first goal in the three minutes of play and put the opponent on the back foot and his mate Vijay Akk and S Barla scored a brace each and made the target impossible. J Toto, S Akk and Anil Kulu scored a goal each.
In other matches of the day, Phulbani beat Dhenkanal by 2-1, Prafula Dalabehera, Birendra Behera of the winning team scored a goal each Bikash Pradhan of Phulbani scored the solitary goal.
Khurda thrashed the host Nalco team by 8-2 goals, Sovran Barla, Sanjit Kujur and Dilip Kerketa of the winning team scored a brace each and Madan Kujur and Anand Tirkey scored a goal each. S Majhi and Susil Lakra of the host team scored a goal each.
