    Curfew relaxed for 12 hours in Dhanbad

    On Saturday curfew was relaxed in Dhanbad for 12 hours (from 7am to 7pm). Curfew was imposed on Wednesday after a clash between police and local residents in protest against a court-authorised eviction drive.

    A team of 12 Opposition MLAs — Dhullu Mahto, Pradip Yadav, Nirbhay Singh Yadav, Bandhu Tirkey, Annpurna Devi, Vinod Singh, Bhuneshwar Mehta, Foolchand Mahato, Aroop Chatterjee including others rushed to Dhanbad to meet the victims of the Matkoria violence and expressed their solidarity and sympathy on Saturday.

    First MLAs visited residence of deceased and later gone to Patliputra Medical College (PMCH) to meet with the injured.

    At hospital few injured complained about lack of medicare in the hospital to the legislators. Irk legislators asked the hospital superintendent Dr Arun Kumar about the complaints that patients are not getting proper treatment in the hospital.

    After not getting the satisfactory reply from the superintendent irked JVM (P) MLA Dhullu Mahto along with their supporters thrashed the superintendent at PMCH. Later Dr Arun Kumar apologised to the legislators for inadequate facilities in the hospital.

    The faculty members of PMCH, the IMA Dhanbad chapter have lodged an FIR against the legislator after taking up the issue with the PMCH principal. “The MLA Dhulu Mahto beat me up in the ward, accusing me of not attending to the injured admitted to the PMCH after the Wednesday Matkoria police firing incident,”

    On Wednesday the clash broke out when locals resisted demolition or eviction of their houses at Matkoria under Kenduadih police station. The residents, who allegedly encroached upon the land of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, had been served a notice to vacate the area.

    Officially only four deaths had been confirmed. Vikash Singh and Dinesh Handi died on the spot while Sanjay Rawani and Sanjay Paswan died during their treatment, sources informed.

    On Saturday, Coal India handed over the cheques of `2.5 lakh as compensations to the deceased families.
