Tholpetty wild life sanctuary to be opened soon for tourists

Mananthavadi: Bringing an end to the long wait and protests, the Tholpetty wild life sanctuary would be opened to tourists soon. The decision was taken after discussions between the concerned parties. The sanctuary was closed on May 26, 2010 following untoward incidents in the forest check post. The clashes erupted alleging that a forest worker had beaten up CPI leader EJ Babu and later Babu and his team retaliated by beating up some forest workers. Eco Development Commitee (EDC) activists blocked wild life warden VK Sreevalsan who came to enquire about the incident.

The Forest department decided to close the sanctuary when clashes became uncontrollable. Following this, many people who depended on the sanctuary for their livlihood were put into hardship. Several protests followed. When the sanctuary opens again, all tribal and EDC activists would be employed.
