The Enforcement Directorate has summoned DMK MP Kanimozhi and four others allegedly involved in payment or receipt of the Rs 200 crore bribe paid to DMK-owned Kalaignar TV as a quid pro quo for controversial award of the 2G licences and scarce spectrum to dubious telecom firm, Swan Telecom by beleaguered Telecom Minister A Raja.
The summons have been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to Kanimozhi and four others charge-sheeted by the CBI in the 2G scam case. The agency has asked them to appear after May 6, the date on which they have been asked to appear by a designated court conducting the trial of the 2G scam case.
Besides Kanimozhi, the summons were issued to Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa’s cousin Asif Balwa, Director of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd Rajeev Agarwal and Karim Morani of Cineyug Films (Pvt) Ltd, sources said.
The ED has also asked these 2G scam accused persons to furnish documents related to their funding, income, properties and bank account statements, according to the sources.
The CBI had on April 25 named Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, Asif Balwa, Sharad Kumar, Rajiv Agarwal and Karim Morani in its supplementary chargesheet in the 2G scam filed before a designated court here.
The court has also issued summons to these five persons to appear before it on May 6.
