A 24-year-old Non-Resident Indian (NRI) committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at his South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj residence early on Tuesday morning. According to police, the victim, Dheeraj Rana, was under depression, as he was not able to bear the expenses of his father’s medical treatment and wife’s education, who is pursuing MBA in London. Rana’s father is in coma and is under going treatment at a private hospital in the Capital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chhaya Sharma said that the matter came to their notice at about 5.10 am through a PCR call made by Rana’s mother. “After receiving the call a police team reached the spot and rushed the victim to AIIMS where the doctors declared him brought dead. The exact reason behind Rana’s taking the extreme step could not be ascertained, as we did not find any suicide note from his possession,” said the DCP adding Rana is a green card holder in UK. The post mortem examination of Rana’s body will be conducted on Friday since his wife and sister who also lives in UK will be able to arrive in the Capital on Thursday only. His body has been preserved in AIIMS mortuary.
During inquiry, the DCP said, the family members of the victim said that Rana was very disturbed and depressed due to his financial losses in his property business.
“It was also learnt that on Monday night Rana had some heated argument with his wife while the couple were chatting through Internet. Rana had became so annoyed that he had even smashed his laptop by throwing it on the floor,” said Sharma adding Rana’s wife Sakshi lives in London. According to family members, even though she was aware of Rana’s poor financial condition, Sakshi for past couple of days was insisting for money required for her education and accommodation in London. Besides, Sakshi wanted to settle in UK while he wanted to live here with his parents. Rana and Sakshi often used to quarrel over this.
