Kovalam tourist village to host 'Weekend at Vellar'

Thiruvananthapuram : Kovalam Tourist Village, being developed as a cultural-commercial-leisure hub for tourists, is all set to host `Weekend at Vellar' for students. The event, which will be organised by the Kudumbashree Mission that helped the Kerala women translate their dreams into successful ventures over the years, will feature multi-media training for students along with an ethnic food festival.

Official sources said here today that a three-day workshop would be organised from May 27 to 29 at the village, situated close to the famed beach resort of Kovalam. Besides, a series of workshops on different subjects would be organised for the children of Kudumbashree members from May 6 coinciding with the summer holidays.

The village has been developed on an abandoned granite quarry in Vellar, just off the NH-Byepass to Kovalam.

''Weekend at Vellar'' is the first public offering from the Kovalam Tourist Village. Along with the training sessions, a fair of Kudumbashree products will also be organised at the tourist village.

Organically grown vegetables, high-quality food products, ethnic crafts and daily-use items will be on sale through-out the weekend.
