Mysore: Renovation of the parallel road proposed by the court as an alternative to the route which is under night traffic ban through Bandhipur, has reached nowhere due to apathy of the Karnataka government. The delay in taking over the road by the PWD dept and lack of interest of PWD officials have been cited as the reasons for the delay. The Karnataka PWD department was not ready to take over the road though the district and village panchayats had offered their willingness to provide the road and place for renovation. The PWD has also sought the permission of the central government to renovate the road of which 2 km passes through the tiger reserve.
The Mysore-Mananthavadi road renovation committee formed under the central empowering committee of the Supreme Court, in the meeting convened on January 12, had asked the Karnataka village development department to renovate the 14 km road between Damankhatee and Udbar junction. But the village development principal secretary stated that in 2010 itself the road was given for renovation.
It was Mysore chief executive officer who asked the PWD department to do the needful to take over the road but the PWD department had not done anything so far. As the road passes through forest area, the forest department also informed PWD department about their willingness to hand over the road.
