    Balakrishna Pillai refuses parole

Thiruvananthapuram: Jailed Kerala Congress (B) leader, R Balakrishna Pillai, has refused to accept the 10-day interim parole granted to him, as he was displeased with the condition of a ban on participating in any political meetings or talking to the media. He did not accept the parole for 10 days, which was granted as per certain conditions. He returned to jail stating that parole has to be granted the normal way as done for other jail mates. Though it was stated that he might be out on parole on Saturday, Pillai refused it when jail authorities asked him to sign the conditions. When the matter became a row, jail authorities tried to appease him. But Pillai protested the conditions imposed in the parole, which generally was not done for any other inmates. Jail authorities said that Pillai's son KB Ganesh Kumar asked them about the parole conditions. They told him that if someone vouches for the conditions, parole would be granted.

The authorities also said that any relative or a friend of Pillai could stand as surety and sign the bond. As per this, a person sent by Ganesh signed the conditions.

Jail authorities said as Pillai had violated the parole conditions during his earlier parole, new conditions were imposed.
