Chief Minister Arjun Munda may have measured the dipping pulse of his political guru Shibu Soren before announcing officially that his party would contest on the vacant Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, after some obvious assertions, is very likely to fall in line.
Internal discussions within the JMM suggest that the party high command may not be willing to jeopardise the continuation of the Government for the sake of a seat which would prove to be a tough nut to crack under the given circumstances. The Soren-led party is anticipating the wrath of the people displaced due to the anti-encroachment drive. The JMM kept a mysterious silence throughout the exercise and let its coalition partner BJP take credit of whatever measures adopted to provide a healing touch. The lately mellowed tone of the party tells its own story considering the firmness shown by the Chief Minister just a day before right on the soil of Jamshedpur.”The time is not ripe. Deliberations can take place. It may be his personal remark as he is also heading a political party (BJP). His statement as a head of the coalition would be different,” Shashank Shekhar Bhokta, JMM legislator from Sarath, said.
The working committee of the party would meet in the first week of June in Jamshedpur to”decide its strategy officially” about contesting the election besides other issues. But sources say that the move is only to bargain more on various other issues by maintaining pressure till the eleventh hour. The JMM is finding itself more and more at the receiving end on the recent developments on the issue of the demolition exercise.
