Leaders of the moderate Hurriyat Conference on Sunday reiterated their demand for resumption of dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue. "We invite India and Pakistan to initiate dialogue process. We will cooperate with every process provided it is centred on Kashmir," Mirwaiz Omer Farooq, chairman of the pro-dialogue separatist group, said while addressing a public rally in Kralpora village of frontier Kupwara district.
The gathering was organised to commemorate the death anniversary of two slain leaders, Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone who were shot dead by militants on May 21 in separate incidents in 1990 and 2001, respectively. The authorities disallowed a public gathering in Srinagar on Saturday but permitted the separatist leaders to hold a rally in Kupwara where Lone's son, Bilal Ghani Lone enjoys wide support.
The Hurriyat chairman said that his faction considers dialogue process as a single medium for resolution of issues. "But the process of dialogue should not culminate on wastage of time", he clarified.
Mirwaiz blamed New Delhi for its "insincerity" towards dialogue process. "No concrete steps have been taken by New Delhi to solve Kashmir dispute. Kashmir can't be solved at the level of interlocutors, but at the leadership level of India, Pakistan and Kashmiris," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, former Hurriyat chairman Abdul Ghani Bhat said that India and Pakistan have no option but to embark on the process of dialogue. "Both the countries are nuclear powers. They cannot afford to go for a war. We (Kashmiri leaders) offer India and Pakistan that we are willing to talk. What is the other option to solve vexed Kashmir issue?" he said.
