New Delhi: Union Minister of food and public distribution minister KV Thomas said that the union government would extend all support to fulfill UDF's promise of providing rice at Rs 1 a kg. He said the centre has decided to allot more food grains to the state. The first modern food-processing unit set by the centre would be implemented in Kunnathanam and Pathanamthitta, he said. Chief minister Oommen Chandy would lay the foundation stone on June 4. He said a special share of food grains have been allotted for 2011-12. As per Andhyodahya project, 2.5 lakh tones of rice and for BPL sector 3,18,000 tone and for APL 4,32,000 tones of rice have been allotted. The state government would open procurement centers in agricultural centers like Kuttanad. The center has also approved a container goods center in Kannur. The project would be completed within nine months.
