20 states against banning endosulfan

New Delhi: Kerala has got a slap in its effort for a nationwide ban on endosulfan as 20 states has opposed banning the pesticide. The states informed of their decision in the meeting convened by the Union Agricultural Ministry. Only representatives from Kerala voiced for a ban.The other states countered Kerala's claim that endosulfan causes widespread health problems. They said they never witnessed such instances in their respective states. They also claimed that endosulfan is less costly and effective. The other states, which earlier stood with Kerala's demand for a ban, also changed their stand. States like Orissa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh had changed their stand.

It is reported that when representatives of Endosulfan-making companies participated in the meet, no representatives from the farmers side were there.
