Kochi:: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kerala Unit President V Muraleedharan today termed the action of the police against yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters at Ramlila maidan in New Delhi akin to Jallianwala massacre during the erstwhile British rule.
''Lobbing tear gas shells and using batons against unarmed people, who were in deep sleep was nothing but another massacre,' he told UNI. Condemning the arrest of Ramdev, who had embarked on a fast against corruption and black money, the BJP leader said the move to suppress the people who were organising an agitation peacefully and democratically, was ''cruel and undemocratic.'' When pointed out about the Congress charge that the BJP was deriving political mileage from the agitation, he said the BJP would always be at the forefront of fight against corruption and black money, whoever organises it.
While the masses were raising their voice against corruption and organicing agitations across the country, the Congress party was trying to suppress such public agitation. This was to protect somebody, he charged.
The action of the Congress proved that many of its leaders had black money and that was why it was ''taking negative steps'' against peoples' movements against corruption, the charged.
