    SEED, third phase begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The third phase of SEED, the programme organized by Mathrubhumi to impart awareness on environment protection among children and also to involve them in environment protection activities, began here on Sunday. The statewide inauguration of the third phase, echoing the slogan `benefitting society through children', was inaugurated by forest minister KB Ganesh Kumar. He planted a sapling at the Pojappura Chinnamma Memorial HS.

Ganesh Kumar said that strict action would be taken against transporting plastic wastes to forests. Machines would be installed in various parts of the state to recycle the wastes accumulated in forest area and to sell them after shuddering. The minister said that by this, income could be generated for the government as plastic companies making chairs would buy the same. A movement for environment protection began in Mathrubhumi by taking a firm stand on issues including Silent Valley. The efforts to sow seeds of nature and love among children has much relevance.

Mathrubhumi Thiruvananthapuram regional manager NS Vinod Kumar presided over the function. Councilor K Maheswaran Nair, Wintech Publications finance director DJ Prabhu, Chinnamma Memorial HS Manager M Sreekumari, headmistress GS Santhi, PTA president P Sreekumaran Nair also participated.
