Decline of more than 85,000 children in public schools

Thiruvananthapuram: The statistics of declining number of students in government schools have come out in the wake of the state government decision to give NOC to more CBSE schools in the state. A decline of 85,000 to 1 lakh students have been found this academic year. The government decision to issue NOC to more CBSE schools and the verification of statistics in govt schools was done the same day. There are applications for 2500 CBSE schools for recognition. Majority of them are functioning for years. When the students of such schools reach Xth standard, they would be writing exam under the label of another school, which is recognized. Though the permission of government and panchayat is needed to set up a school, usually this procedure is avoided.

The former UDF government had given recognition to 500 schools and the application now has increased to 2500. Though the LDF government at first showed a strong stand against this, during the last period of its regime it gave recognition to 42 schools. But the newly formed government is all set to give recognition to many schools.
