Latest News from India - Mother of 6 abandoned by children; taken to hospital

Mulanthuruthy: A bed-ridden old woman with sores all over her body was shifted to a hospital with the help of service organizations and panchayat authorities on Monday. Kunajli, 82, from Kanayanoor Choantanikkara was in a miserable condition. She has six children, four girls and two boys. Her husband pre-deceased her. Kunjali, who was residing alone, made her living by doing household works in her neighborhood. She had worked six months back and later quit as she was ailing.

Though at first some neighbours brought her food, she became completely bedridden two weeks back. She was unable to speak too. Asha worker Praseela, `Aswas' voluntary organization for Women and Aswas patron Advocate Sujatha, panchayat development standing commitee chairman Johnson Thomas and grama panchayat president MA John shifted her to the Ernakulam general hospital. Sujatha said if her children come to offer help, they are willing to let her go.
