Latest News from India - Amrita varsity clarifies

Kochi: Amirta Deemed University today informed that the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development had exempted them from providing 50 per cent seats to the State Government for admitting students for Post Graduation courses to its Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences following a Supreme Court verdict.Following a request from the State Government, the MHRD, through a letter dated June 24, informed the Kerala Government the stand of the Indian Medical Association in this regard, a release claimed here.

Recently, clashes between private self-financing institutions run by the Christian and Muslim organizations and the government on providing 50 per cent their seats to government to admit students in government quota had dragged Amrita University stating that the rule was applicable to them also.

Reacting to certain media reports that the university had received showcause notice from MHRD, University Grants Commission or Medical Council of India, the release clarified that the institution had not received any notice so far.
