The first flight of Jet Airways landed at the new terminal of the Raja Bhoj International Airport of the State capital on Monday morning. This terminal was inaugurated last week making Bhopal one of the few cities in the country to start operating international flights.

Jet Airways and the airport authorities welcomed all the passengers on their arrival at the airport. This was the first flight since the inauguration of the new terminal on June 28 that landed at the Raja Bhoj International Airport. Flights of Jet Airways and the Air India also took off from the new terminal.

The new airport terminal is built over an area of 26,936 sq metres at a whopping cost of Rs 135 crore and the ITB has 14 check-in counters, four immigration counters for departures and 6 immigration counters for arrival. The State Government had given 400 acres of land for the international terminal.

Developed on the lines of the Delhi and Mumbai airports, the Raja Bhoj Airport’s new terminal comprises two separate sections for domestic and international flights.

It also has two Customs counters, each for arrival and departure, and six X-ray machines for security. The runway at the airport has also been expanded from 6,000 ft to 9,000 ft.
The terminal with all the latest facilities of international standard consists of a passenger lounge having a seating capacity for 750 people. Apart from that separate entry and exit points have been made for national and international flights. The airport has night landing facilities, an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and will get a new fire station and control tower soon.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, which will be monitored by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, have been installed within and outside the new building.
Apart from that four escalators to take and bring passengers to and from the aerobridge will add to the numerous passenger friendly facilities put in place.
