Ahead of 2013 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress on Monday announced appointments of 34 district party presidents (DCC) in the State. Among those appointed, 12 are from general category, 10 from backward caste, five from minority community, four ST and one each belonging to Gujarati, Sikh and Sindhi community, while three are women leaders, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee members said.
Due to lack of consensus among the senior party leaders, the names of presidents in remaining 16 districts were not announced, they said.
Over a dozen DCC presidents have been repeated in the list announced on Monday while consensus could not be made in the major cities including the State capital. The much publicised unity among regional satraps since the appointment of Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kantilal Bhuria as the State Congress president failed and in the result district presidents could not be appointed in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur.
A State Congress release here stated that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had approved the appointment of 34 district Congress committee presidents for Madhya Pradesh.
According to the release, the Congress president approved the proposal of appointing district Congress committee presidents for Madhya Pradesh. As per the list, Suresh Chander Agarwal is appointed the district Congress president for Hoshangabad while Hira Aswani is appointed the district Congress president for Siwni and Mahesh Patel will be the district president for Alirajpur.
Avinash Bargav is the district Congress president for Bhopal (reserved) while Ramchandra Dangi has been appointed the district president for Rajgarh and Komal Dhurve is the district president for Ratlam (reserved).
Hari Singh Rajput has been appointed the district president for Sagar (rural), Rupender Patel has been appointed the district president for Jabalpur (rural). Omkar Patel is the district Congress president for Khandwa while Juma Solanki is the district Congress president for Khargone.
