Kochi : The CBI arrested an officer of the Central Excise allegedly while accepting a bribe from a businessman here last night. Ajay Pratab Singh, attached to the Service tax of the Central Excise at Kadavantha was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a businessman.
According the CBI sources, the officer had demanded a sum of Rs 1 lakh for settling service tax returns.
As the businessman expressed his inability to give such an huge amount immediatly, the officer agreed to pay Rs 15,000 as first installment after bargaining.
However, the businessman lodged a complaint with the CBI and they trapped the Excise Inspector, while accepting the money, the sources added.
