    Latest News from India - Direction to raise electricity charge during peak hours

    New Delhi: The national meet of state electricity ministers has recommended rise in electricity charges during peak hours. The production cost of electricity using diesel is on rise when compared to hike in oil price. The direction is also made to raise the charge of electricity generated through diesel.The central cabinet would take a decision on the same. But it is the respective state governments that has to take the decision. Electricity minister Aryadan Muhammed informed that the two decisions which are beneficial to Kerala will be considered. One is to extend the limit of Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (APDRP). This project is being implemented in places with over 50,000 population but now it would be made applicable in areas with more than 15,000 people. Majority of the places in Kerala would come under this.

    Aryadan said that the project aims to curb technical and commercial loss of electricity. The loss, which was at 33 %, came down tp 18.3 % after the implementation of the project.
