An Officer Training Academy (OTA) will go on-stream at Gaya in Bihar on Monday.
With this the Army, which faces a shortage of some 12,000 officers from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and below, can hope to add an additional 750 officers each year in three years.
The second OTA is part of a recommendation by a committee that finally got clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security in December 2009. Chennai has an OTA.
The OTA will be inaugurated by Lt. Gen. K. Surendra Nath, Chief of the Shimla-based Army Training Command.
Some 140 gentleman cadets would be put through their paces at this new facility paving the way for their formal induction into the Army after nine-months of training.
The government has sanctioned Rs. 400 crore as a one-time expenditure for creating an improved infrastructure .
