Thiruvananthapuram: The formal agreement between the state government and self-financing engineering managements would be signed on Thursday. The decision for a pact on a 50:50 seat-sharing basis with Rs 35,000 as annual tuition fee for half the government seats and Rs.60,000 for the other half was finalized between the Government and Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Managements Association on Monday.As per the pact, half the seats in self-financing engineering colleges would be given to the government. At the same time the special fee charges of Rs 25,000, levied by the management during the previous year, would be made applicable to government seats too this year.
Managements were allowed to charge up to Rs 99,000 as fee for management seats along with a refundable deposit of Rs. 1.5 lakh. The fee in the NRI quota was Rs 1.5 lakh. The managements would hold the entrance exam to the management seats. The same would be done after admission from the state entrance list. Management association members said the exam would be held under the scrutiny of the Muhammad committee. But minister Abdu Rabb and Adoor Prakash said no permission has been given for the managements to conduct the exam.
