Kannur: The ancestral home of Communist leader A K Gopalan `Gopalavilsam' is slipping into history as the family has decided to demolish the home. Earlier, the CPM local leadership protested against the demolition but now they have withdrawn their protest. The previous LDF government also declared that they would make it a protected monument. But the government too withdrew from the proceedings.
The house is being demolished to construct a new house for Sadasivan, AKG's nephew. The local leadership backtracked from protests due to pressure from the family. At that time Sadasivan was forced to stop demolition due to protest. Sadasivan also filed a petition in the court against taking over of the house and stopping demolition. The court sent notices to the local CPM leaders but they did not appear in the court and give a reply.
Sadasivan is the son of Laskhmikutty, AKG's sister. His two brothers already constructed houses on the premises. AKG's tomb is situated near to the house and the family had already given 7 cents of land, which includes the tomb, to CPM earlier.
