Latest News from India - Director, registrar resigns; ruling crisis in NIT

Kozhikode: NIT Kozhikode is witnessing a crisis at the time of the new academic year which began on Tuesday. The registrar has resigned from the post and director, who was holding temporary charge, wanting to be relieved. After the retirement of the previous director Dr GRS Reddy in October, a new director was not appointed. Dr EK Gopinath was given the charge. When he too retired last month, Dr TS Jose was in charge.

On Saturday, Jose forwarded his resignation letter to the Union Human Resourses department requesting to be relieved due to health reasons. On Monday the registrar Dr Abraham P Mathew resigned. When appointments to directors were made to 11 out of 12 NITs in the country, Kozhikode was spared. It is stated that Dr S Mohanan from Chennai NIT would be appointed as the director. Though the period of the dean also expired in Kozhikode, new appointments were not made.

The governing body was also not fully restructured. Though teachers Dr TK Suresh Babu and Dr K Muralikrishna were appointed to the government body, they were not able to take charge as the governing body was not fully restructured. The teachers and non-teachers held a strike on the campus demanding appointment of a permanent director and it is said that the registrar and director resigned after this.
