Thiruvananthapuram: An amount of Rs 33.22 crore was found wasted from the project fund received by the health department in the last three years. The financial regulatory section of the health department also found that the department failed to recover Rs 1.5 crore from companies which had distributed low quality medicines. The department have also failed to recover Rs 2.13 crore given as advance to the drugs and pharmaceuticals in 2007-08 financial year for buying drugs. The department received Rs 269.76 crore from 2007-08 to 2009-10. Of the Rs 175.72 crore received in 2007-08, Rs 161 crore was utilised. In 2008-09, of the Rs 91.63 crore received, Rs 86.82 crore was utilised. In 2009-10, Rs 134.98 crose was used out of the Rs 149.57 crore.
The Rs 2 crore alloted from the CM's fund to curb spreading of contagious diseases in Kannur and Kozhikode was not utilised. As per the accounts of health department, 1,67,715 persons in Kannur and 1,82,523 persons from Kozhikode were affected with viral fever from June to October 2010.
