Nedumbassery : In a major security lapse, a boy, aged about 12 years, was arrested from the airside of the Kochi International Airport here. The boy, identified as Kiran of Perungottukara in Thrissur, was seen near the airport bay when the Apron Controller of CIAL and Air India Ground Handling Staff found him moving suspiciously in the airside last night around 2130 hrs.
They immediately intercepted the boy and questioned him.
The boy was later handed over to Nedumbassery Police.
The police who interrogated him found that he was a mentally- challenged boy.
However, the presence of the boy in the airside of the Airport without the notice of the CISF was considered a major security lapse. CISF is the sole agency to restrict the entry of any person into the airport.
The boy would have jumped over the compound wall and gone to the bay to have a closer look of the aircraft.
CIAL has ordered an inquiry into the incident, Airport Director ACK Nair said.
''We are taking this very seriously and have asked the CISF authorities to take stringent action against the irrant personnel on duty, as they failed to notice the boy, who jumped into the airport prohibited area, and spent hours, before being caught,'' he told UNI.
In an earlier instance also, a mentally-challenged person had entered the runway through the saftey wall of the airport, which raised doubts and lapses on the security in the aiport in the wake of the threat to various aiports in the country by terrorist outfits.
