Following an email from Indian Mujahideen threatening that Delhi will witness a few more blasts on September 13, the third anniversary of the serial bomb blasts, Delhi Police personnel kept strict vigil across the city through the day on Tuesday.
At ISBT Kashmere Gate, no passenger was allowed to enter inside the premises without being frisked thoroughly. The efforts also helped to enhance confidence of common men and to reduce the fear to an extent. As one steps inside the terminal premises, one could hear warning and instructions being made through loudspeakers. Police personnel could be seen patrolling more often.
High alert was sounded and the security at significant points at bus stands, railways stations, Metro stations, airport and other important buildings was beefed up. These vital installations were under round the clock monitoring of security agencies. Even the DTC bus drivers and conductors were informing passengers to keep their eyes and ears open. DTC conductor Manoj Kumar said, “We are asking passengers not to leave their belongings unattended.” Charanjeet Singh, who boarded a bus from Kashmere Gate for Patiala said, “It feels good and helps to overcome the fear when security guards are so vigilant. But this should be made a 24X7 feature for the security of the people. I really appreciate the move.”
Security agencies also instructed staff of ISBT, drivers, conductors, vendors and staff at parking area to remain vigilant and inform the police if notice any suspicious object of activity in and around
the area. A senior police official said that top officials of Delhi police kept reviewing the security situations in the city on Tuesday due to the any possible terror strike as stated in the threatening email. “A tight security apparatus has been put in place. Senior officials were on the streets monitoring the security arrangement,” he said.
Though the said e-mail by Indian Mujhahideen has apparently failed to create any panic among the Delhiites but they were obviously concerned about their safety. Sanjay Singh, incharge of a Levis showroom in CP said, “However, there was no decrease in footfall in CP after Delhi High Court blast but the concern on the faces of Delhiites could be seen, they are still worried,” he said.
