On the last day of the Congressmen’s satyagraha to counter Chief Minister Narendra Modi's three-day ‘Sadbhavna Mission’ fast, the crowds outside the Sabarmati Ashram thinned down even as the leaders frantically tried to keep the tempo high with songs and slogans blazing from the loudspeakers.
Former Union Textiles Minister Sankersinh Vaghela announced that he would break his fast only on Tuesday morning as the 72-hour period would end only around that time, the Satyagraha having begun at that hour on Saturday. The Congressmen outside the Sabarmati Ashram also carried out a whisper campaign that CM Narendra Modi is breaking his promise of a 72-hour fast by finishing it on Monday evening itself.
In their bid to slander the Chief Minister, they also distributed the printout of a page from a website which announced that Modi would be on fast for 72 hours. But for the futile attempt to create a controversy over the timing of breaking the fast, the show at the Congress Satyagraha on Monday was nothing much to write home about.
