Thiruvananthapuram : The Centre has given clearance for setting up a Marine University in Ernakulam and a tribal welfare project in Attappadi in Kerala.Official sources today said the Centre's decision followed meetings between Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, eight Union Ministers and two Ministers of State in New Delhi yesterday.
The Chief Minister along with his Cabinet colleagues reached New Delhi yesterday to meet the Central Ministers to speed up all the pending projects in Kerala.
The quantity of rice for APL families will be increased to 15 kg from 10 kg and the Union Ministry has promised assistance for farming in coal lands, the sources said.
Other projects that had received clearance are the artificial insemination centers, cold storages and the project to make Idukki self-reliant in dairy products.
An MoU was signed with KIOCL to explore the possibility of iron ore mining in Kerala.
