Latest Indian News : Raman Govt mulls CISF-like industrial security force

With rapid industrialisation in Chhattisgarh in various sectors including power, steel and iron ore, the State Government has decided to raise its own industrial security force on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

A proposal prepared by the State Home Department, is currently being examined by the State Finance Ministry officials, sources told The Pioneer. According to the proposal, four battalions of the State Industrial Security Force (SISF) will be raised for industrial protection.

“After the proposal is approved by the Finance Department, further steps will be taken for raising four battalions of the SISF,” a senior official said. Besides guarding the industrial concerns, the official said, the SISF personnel will also help check the Maoists who are trying to expand their base in new regions.

The constitution of the SISF is a significant move in view of the rapid industrialisation in Raigarh, Korba, Janchgir and other districts of Chhattisgarh. The Maoists too have been making frantic efforts to spread their tentacles in new areas including the outskirts of capital Raipur.

The issue was also discussed during a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Raman Singh and attended by top officials including Chief Secretary P Joy Oomen and officials from the Home Department, the police, CRPF, BSF and the ITBP.

Besides discussing the required infrastructure in the Leftwing ultra-affected areas of the State, the meeting stressed the need for better coordination between the State police and various wings of the paramilitary forces in fight against the Maoists. “People must feel a sense of security and peace amid ongoing development work taking place in their area,” Raman Singh told officers.
