    Latest News from India - Rs 63.5 cr for road works in Sabarimala

    hiruvananthapuram:The repair work of damaged roads to Sabarimala will be completed before the start of the coming Makaravilakku festival season.

    Talking to newspersons here yesterday, Kerala Public Works Minister V K Ibrahim Kunju said Rs 63.5 cr have been sanctioned for the work.He was speaking to the media after a meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to discuss the interim report of Pullumedu tragedy submitted by Justice Hariharan.

    A detailed discussion regarding this will be held on October 10 here.

    As per the Commission's report it has been decided to ban private vehicles in the Vandiperiyaar- Vallakadavu route. KSRTC chain service will be introduced in this route.

    Construction of two queue complexes and a bailey bridge at Sannidhanam will be completed before the commencement of this season. Works in the Swami Ayyapan road is also nearing completion.

    Better Sanitation facilities will be provided this time from Pampa to Sannidhanam. For this Rs 5 crore allotted in the budget will be utilised.

    To discuss the preparations for this season meeting with Devasom Secretaries of Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karnataka will be held on October 23 at Kottayam.

    Information Centre will also be opened at Nilakkal for the pilgrims from North India.

    Ministers V S Sivakumar, KMMani, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, V K Ibrahim Kunju, KB Ganesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Jayakumar, DGP Jacob Punnose also were present the meeting.
