Plan panel official found poisoned, hospitalized

A director for Socio-Economic Research of the Planning Commission was admitted to BL Kapur Hospital following a PCR call by his caretaker that he was lying unconscious at his third floor office on Parliament Street.

Medical reports to the police have attributed Anil Malhotra’s (59) unconsciousness to “unknown poisoning”.

ACP KC Dwivedi said, “We were intimated by a PCR call on Wednesday by the caretaker outside Malhotra’s office at 8:30 pm. He had noticed that Malhotra had locked his door. When for sometime he heard no movement, he broke open the door to find Malhotra lying unconscious on his chair.”

Soon after, Malhotra’s family was informed and they rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, then to Gangaram Hospital and then to BL Kapur Hospital, where he is in the ICU. Sources revealed that Malhotra, who is to retire next month, was under some sort of work- related stress and therefore allegedly attempted suicide.
