Court orders case against another Rajasthan Minister

A lower court on Saturday directed the police to register a case of forgery and illegal mining in Karauli district against Motor Garage Minister Bharosi Lal Jatav and his four sons.

On a petition filed by social worker Ashok Pathak, Additional Civil Judge of Hindaun Randhir Singh Mirdha found prima facie a case of forging documents, besides illegal mining against the Minister, his four sons and eight other persons and asked the local police to register criminal cases against them.

Jatav is the second Minister after Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna, against whom a criminal case has been registered in the last fortnight. Two weeks back, a Bilara court had directed the police to include the name of Maderna as accused in the kidnapping of nurse Bhanwari Devi.

In his petition, Pathak had alleged that way back in 2004 when Jatav was Zila Pramukh of Karauli, he managed to persuade then Deputy Conservator of Forest of the area on the basis of forged documents to issue a letter to declare that a particular piece of land in Kharet village was revenue land and not belonging to the Forest Department.

On the basis of this letter, Jatav was able to get mining licences in his name and in the name of his four sons. That was in June 2005. On a complaint of the Chief Forest Conservator of the State in February 2011 it was held that the land belonged to the Forest Department and the concerned official had no authority to declare it as revenue land.

Despite various complaints since 2004, Jatav, his sons and eight others continued mining in the area. This illegal mining by the Minister and his sons did not stop even after the Rajasthan High Court had banned mining activities in the entire area. This had happened in connivance with the local officials, it was alleged.
