‘P Chidambaram should be ousted, prosecuted like Raja’

The BJP on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for charging the Opposition with creating instability and claimed it was ‘a comment of desperation’ by the PM designed to divert from the main issue.

The political resolution adopted at the BJP’s National Executive Meeting also demanded that Chidambaram be removed from the Union Cabinet and he be prosecuted like Raja in the 2G corruption case.

The document, prepared by Rajya Sabha MP Ravishankar Prasad, accused Chidambaram of failing to safeguard public interest and public revenue as Finance Minister and colluding with A Raja, the then Telecom Minister, in the 2G scam.

“If A Raja is being prosecuted for causing wrongful loss of public revenue and of causing gain to certain private entities, how can P Chidambaram continue to enjoy the confidence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, when the same charge is clearly maintainable against him?” the BJP asked.

Hitting out at the Government for weakening constitutional institutions and targeting whistle blowers in the cash-for-vote scam, the BJP also claimed that Congress was not serious about dealing with corruption.

The party also slammed the UPA for failing to check terror attacks and also took exception to the Planning Commission for fixing Rs 32 as below the poverty line (BPL) benchmark of Rs 32 in the urban area and Rs. 25 in the rural area.

"In view of all round inflation and difficulty being created by the UPA even in the availability of the very basic necessities for daily existence, this benchmark amounts to rubbing salt into the wound of aam adami," the resolution reads.
