A city court on Friday denied bail to a suspected woman Maoist Soni Sori who was arrested on October 4 in the national Capital. The court also allowed Chhattisgarh Police’s plea seeking three days transit remand of the woman.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Naveen Arora accepted State police’s plea for taking 36-year-old Sori, charged with sedition for allegedly acting as a conduit between Maoists and private firm Essar, to Dantewada on transit remand, but ordered for necessary protection to be given to her.
Before her transit remand was granted to the Chhattisgarh Police, Sori was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna who rejected her bail plea and referred the issue of transit remand to the ACMM’s court. “In view of the order of Sessions Judge, I grant a transit remand of three days of accused Soni Sori to be produced before Judicial Magistrate Yogita Vasnik (at Dantewada). Investigating officer is directed to take all measures to ensure the safety of the accused,” Arora said.
Earlier, seeking bail Sori had said that she was falsely implicated in the case and should not be handed over to Dantewada police as she feared for her life. Sori had told the court that she was a primary school teacher and the police had forced her to make a call and demand `15 lakh on behalf of the Naxals. The suspected claimed that she was let off after she made the call as directed by the police and asked to flee from Chhattisgarh, following which she came here to Delhi.
Chhattisgarh Police, however, said there was no threat to her life in Dantewada. They said custodial interrogation of Sori was needed as four cases were pending against her. Sori was apprehended by Delhi Police from South Delhi for allegedly acting as a conduit between Maoists and Essar. She hails from Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, a hot bed of Maoist activities.
