At the receiving end of Anna Hazare’s anti-graft campaign and his appeal to masses to vote against the party in the Hisar by-election, the Congress on Friday hit back at him citing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that Sangh activists participated in the Gandhian’s agitation.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, who was in the past asked by Hazare to go to mental asylum for linking his agitation with RSS, was prompt in reminding that his stand has been vindicated by Bhagwat’s statement.
“The Dussehra speech of Mohan Bhagwat vindicates what I had been saying all along that the campaigns of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare have been planned, engineered and organised by the RSS. I still hold to it,” Singh said.
“Whenever I say that Anna’s campaign was run by the RSS, he tells me that I should go to the mental asylum. Now after Bhagwat’s assertions, I want to ask Anna do I still need to go to an asylum?” Singh said. He asked Hazare to accept that RSS supported it.
However, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari who had earlier burnt his fingers by making a scathing comment against Anna, gave a muted response saying, “What is evident need not to be evidenced.”
Tewari, who had to regret for his statement against Hazare and faces a legal notice, tried to downplay Hazare’s appeal to vote against Congress saying the party will fight all the elections with full gusto and accept people’s verdict with grace.
