Latest News from India - Kin of 9/7 accused blame blast militant

Two younger sisters of Wasim Akram, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Delhi High Court blast case from Delhi airport on Friday, have claimed that their brother was “innocent” and had been framed at the behest of another arrested militant, Azhar Ali.

Reacting to the news of their brother’s arrest, a fourth-year student of medical sciences in Bangladesh, BDS student Shazia Malik told reporters at their house in Jammu, “My elder brother is innocent. He is being framed and has nothing to do with the conspiracy of the Delhi High Court blast case as claimed by the various television news reports.”

Disturbed with the repeated broadcast of this news item she even blamed media persons for running unconfirmed news. “How can you say that my brother is one of the masterminds of the Delhi blast case?” law student and the other sister, Asia Malik questioned the visiting team of media persons.

She too claimed that their brother had been named in the case by Azhar Ali to take revenge on their family.

NIA officials had recently questioned Azhar in Kot Bhalwal jail on the basis of interrogation of two arrested youth Abid Hussain and Aamir Abbas Dev from Kishtwar.

Meanwhile, Wasim’s maternal uncle, Ashfaq, based in Kishtwar, also claimed his nephew was innocent and was studying in Bangladesh for the last four years. He said the NIA officials had contacted them to get in touch with Wasim and had also proposed to sponsor his visit to India by air.
