Thiruvananthapuram: The proposed Ship Repairing Yard is likely to come up at Vizhinjam due to its locational advantage.According to offcial sources here today, a survey would be conducted at Vizhinjam and Poovar to study the suitability of the location for the Rs 1500 crore project.
The Shipyard Chairman has been entrusted with the task of submitting a report within two months in this regard.
A final decision would be taken after getting the report.
Three places. Azheekal where the government has land, Vizhinjam and Poovar are under consideration.
About 150 acres of land near a port is necessary as huge cranes and machines need to be shipped to build the unit.
However, The Chief Minister was also convened a meeting in this regard yesterday to discuss the issue.
The meeting was attended by Ports Minister K Babu and Cochin Shipyard Chairman Subramanyam.
