Thiruvananthapuram: There are revelations that jail ADGP sought government permission for allotting a mobile phone to jailed ex minister Balakrishna Pillai. On May 18, jail ADGP Alexander Jacob, has sent a letter regarding this to additional chief secretary.This incident happened months before the row over Pillai's phone call. There is a coin phone booth for prisoners in the central jail and citing security reasons Pillai denied to use the phone.
The coin booth is placed in the jail watchtower and Pillai, who was in hospital block, denied this facility. ADGP has said in the letter that as use of mobile phone is banned inside jail, he sought permission for Pillai to use mobile.
When Pillai was in Poojappura central jail he was enjoying more facilities than other prisoners. ADGP also warned Pillai from talking to the media violating parole rules.
The central jail prisoners are allowed only three visitors per day but for Pillai it was relaxed. Moreover, he was allowed to use home food. ADGP also made it clear that not a single prisoner was enjoying such facilities in the jail.
