Huge cache of ammo, seized, 2 held in Rewa

Police recovered a haul of explosives on Sunday from a house and a car in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh.

The seizure comes four days after an explosives-laden car was found in the parking lot of Ambala Cantonment railway station in Haryana.

Two persons have been arrested and investigations are on to ascertain the involvement of others. Police said the explosives were brought to the region for illegal mining which is rampant in the region.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rewa, KP Khare, told The Pioneer that, acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Rajesh Patel and found a huge quantity of gelatin sticks, detonators and detonating cords. “We came to know that explosives were also being transported in a car. We chased and seized the vehicle,” Khare said. The driver of the car, Manoj Kol, was arrested and his interrogation is in progress.

Khare further said that the reasons behind such explosives being found in the area could be legal or illegal mining.

“We cannot say much about the reason behind the presence of explosives but we are interrogating Rajesh Patel’s landlord Aditya Pratap Singh. Something will come up before long,” he said.

Police recovered 14 packets of detonating cord, two-and-a-half packets of detonators and 10 packets of gelatin sticks from the house of Patel in Rewa, over 500 kilometres from the State capital. More explosives were recovered from the car.

“A haul of 5,000 gelatin sticks in 50 cartons was made. There were 29 packets of detonating cord,” Khare said.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani’s anti-graft roadshow, the Jan Chetna Yatra, passed through Rewa district on Thursday.
