‘Let Anna answer if he has reservation with Sangh’

Anna Hazare’s effort to distance himself from the RSS has not gone down well with the outfit, which on Sunday took a swipe at the social activist by saying that it was not in the tradition of the Sangh to take credit of any work done in the interest of the country.

Insisting that swayamsevaks participated in Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign as ‘common people’, the RSS also left it to activists to explain the reservations, if any, he had with the Sangh.

“We have no reservations for Anna Hazare. If at all he has reservations for the RSS then the question should be best answered by him,” RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi told reporters on Sunday, after a three-day brain storming session of Sangh at Gorakhpur.

Joshi’s hard talk came a day after the RSS hit out at Hazare for his remarks against Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat. On Saturday, Joshi had said that Hazare’s views, expressed in one of his letter to Congress leader Digvijay Singh, would only prove detrimental to the anti-corruption movement.

Last evening, Joshi had issued a statement saying, “The Swayamsevaks of the RSS along with millions of countrymen genuinely aspire to see a Bharat completely free of corruption. It is the paramount responsibility of the leaders of the anti-corruption movements to safeguard them from narrow and low-level conspiratorial politics”.

On Sunday, Joshi, the second-in-command in RSS, also tried to quell all speculation about BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and said quite some time was still left for that decision to be taken.

The leadership questions has suddenly gained importance after LK Advani setting out on another yatra, fuelling speculation that the 84-year-old leader was trying to position himself as prime ministerial candidate ahead of the next elections.

Joshi said Advani will himself make it clear if he is in the race for the post and insisted it is up to the party to decide on the matter when it comes. “There is quite some time for a decision. The said decision will ultimately rest with the BJP and the party will eventually decide when time is right,” Joshi said, adding, “The Sangh neither takes such decision nor does it give direction.”
