I-T Dept summons 250 farmers who had sold land to Sagar group

The Income Tax Department has summoned around 250 farmers from whom the Sagar group had purchased land for developing housing colonies in the outskirts of Bhopal and nearby districts.

The I-T officials had raided 10 premises of the group on Friday and recovered 100 land registration papers along with four kg gold ornaments and other valuable documents showing tax evasion.

The I-T officials suspected that the group showed less amount of the land in the I-T Dept summons 250 farmers who had sold land to Sagar group registration papers, while the farmers were paid additional money in black. As many as 75 farmers were quizzed on Saturday. The I-T Department has also sealed the bank accounts of the group.

Sources claimed that in the raid process, the officials received evidence that the group purchased around 150 acres of land. Some of the farmers have already accepted that they received cash more than that mentioned in the registration papers.

It was also found that in the Mega Housing projects of the group, construction was done against the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) norms. I-T sources informed that they have written to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) seeking details about the colleges being run by the group.

The officials also came to know that personal expenses were also showed in the balance sheets of four Trusts, that were formed by the group for charity purposes.
