A man was killed by armed burglars when members of a family opposed their attempt to rob their home in Gumaniwala area of Rishikesh on Saturday night. The robbers are believed to be members of a kacha-banyan gang and after investigating the scene of the crime the police have lodged a case against unidentified persons.
According to information received from official sources, resident of a village in Gumaniwala area of Rishikesh, Kishan Singh with his family was sleeping at home when four men armed with iron rods and lathis barged in to the house and started searching the articles kept in the home. The noise woke up the sleeping family members who tried to resist the actions of the burglars.
Following which the four goons started beating the family members with iron rods and lathis. Kishan Singh, his wife Vimla, his brothers Trilok Singh, Arjun Singh, sister in-law Gurdeep Kaur and his nephew were injured in the attack.
The thugs brutally beaten the family and then left. Villagers informed the police about the incident after which SP (Rural) GC Dhyani and Rishikesh Kotwal RK Chamoli reached the spot. The injured family members were taken to the local hospital where Arjun Singh was declared dead by the doctors while the other injured persons are said to be in a serious condition.
During the night itself the police undertook a combing operation in the Gumaniwala area but could not get any clue even after hours of search. According to the police, the way the burglars attacked the family members with iron rods and bamboo sticks makes them appear like members of the kacha banyan gang.
This incident sparked panic among locals who are demanding that the police should increase night patrolling in Rishikesh.
