FATEHABAD: In yet another indication of taking the fight to a logical end, the agitating farmers from Gorakhpur and nearby areas on Thursday refused to cremate Ishwar Singh's body even on third day. Meanwhile, with a view to express solidarity with them, around 500 farmers and their families joined the agitation outside the mini-secretariat here.
Agitating farmers rejected the requests made by additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Ashok Kumar Meena, who made a foiled attempt of pursuing the farmers to perform last rites of Ishwar Singh.
Ishwar Singh Siwach, a 60-year-old farmer, had died of illness at a PGIMS Rohtak on Monday. Ishwar, who was second such farmer who died during agitation, fell sick after he sat on chain hunger strike on Saturday. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to PGIMS Rohtak on Sunday.
Ishwar was among those farmers who were protesting the setting up of proposed nuclear power plant in Fatehabad. Agitating farmers are demanding abrogation of the process involved in acquisition of their lands.
Meanwhile, high drama prevailed, when 500 farmers and their families joined the agitating here. Desperate to keep law and order situation under control, the local administration, as well as policemen played pro-active role and diverted the traffic from Sirsa-Fatehabad-Hisar national highway 10 to Bhuna bypass.
The police heaved a sigh of relief, after the farmers returned back after a day-long agitations. Virender Singh, SHO City police station, said, "We have called extra police force to maintain law and order condition. Force from Sirsa and Hisar are called here, though the situation remains peaceful.
Hans Raj Siwach, the president of the kisan sangharsh samiti said, "The ADC asked to meet him and informed us that he will send a detailed letter of our demands to the government. But, we shall not cremate the body of Ishwar Siwach, until our demands are met."
